Reiki Treatment

Reiki session

This page will talk specifically about what occurs during a Reiki treatment. If you are looking for answers to general questions about Reiki, please visit the Reiki FAQ page.

To create the most beneficial and comfortable setting for your Reiki treatment, please notify the practitioner of any special needs you may have. This may include letting them know about back or knee issues that keep you from comfortably lying down flat on a table without the help of a bolster or pillows. Especially if you are pregnant, the session may have to be conducted on a chair or only on the front of the body. Your session is a special time for yourself, so please do not hesitate to let the practitioner know what you need to be comfortable.

Soothing music will be played in the background of the Reiki session or if you prefer silence, that of course can be accommodated. A blanket and heater are available to ensure you are completely comfortable during your session.

Even during the very first Reiki session, the you will becomes extremely relaxed. I have had clients tell me that they had not felt so relaxed in years before having a Reiki session. See the testimonial page for more people's experiences during my treatments.

Some clients drift off to sleep and begin to snore! Some describe to me that they knew they were not completely asleep, but were in between a waking and dream state of complete relaxation. Even when we are sleeping at night are brain is still active and our thoughts are racing. Thoughts my be very apparent during the beginning of the Reiki treatment but will usually slowly fade away as the session progresses.

At the very least you will become extremely relaxed. In this day and age, a mental break from all of life's stresses can be beneficial for your mental and physical well-being. For information on specific conditions treated with Reiki and the result's that others have achieved through Reiki, please visit the conditions treated page.

Basically, Reiki energy removes energetic blocks within the body (much like acupuncture) and brings the body, mind, and spirit in alignment to allow for the body to heal itself.

Whatever you come to your Reiki session wanting to feel better about, I will place my hands from your head to your feet. So many physical manifestations of problems are rooted in psychological processes and for this reason, it is necessary to remove all energy blockages throughout the body. For illustrations of the hand positions that I use during a Reiki treatment click here. Lets say you come to see me for knee problems, I will concentrate on your knee more than I would on someone coming to me for shoulder pain, but I will still work on the rest of the body as well.

The hand positions are meant to cover and balance all of your energy points in your body known as "chakras." To see where your seven chakras as located on your body and to know a bit more about what exactly they are, click here.

Each time you come in for a session, the experience meets you where you currently at and gently moves you towards a state of physical, psychological, and energetic balance.

After the session is complete, people tend to feel very relaxed and almost a bit loopy. The loopiness subsides but the feeling of relaxation can last anywhere from an hour after the session to several days after the session. Many people have forgotten what it feels like to truly relax and that wonderful feeling is one that can be attained through a Reiki treatment.

How Many Reiki Treatments Do You Need?

Just as doctors do not know how each individual person will respond to a certain amount of medicine, the same applies to Reiki.

Acute conditions such as a recently sprained ankle or headache will tend to balance and heal faster than chronic conditions such as depression or chronic knee pain for example. Reiki does create an immediate shift in mental state and continues to create more subtler changes over time. Reiki cannot be quantified and for that reason, personal experience and the energy blockages that I feel on you, will give you a better idea as to how many sessions will take to bring healing to your condition.

One of the original Reiki Masters, Hawayo Takata often treated people on four successive days. Reiki has a cumulative effect and Takata felt that four successive sessions helped to kick start the healing process. It has been my experience that people do feel better after one session but for many conditions that a person has been dealing with for some time, at least two Reiki sessions in close proximity are more beneficial than one session a week.

For some chronic conditions such as depression or chronic pain, many Reiki sessions would be necessary to fully alleviate pain or mental suffering. Because it is not economically realistic to see a Reiki practitioner 3 times a week, I suggest for people to learn how to do Reiki for themselves in one of my training's. It is much more economical and healing can be achieved on a deeper level with daily self treatment. For more information on my Reiki training click here.
